French toast is my ultimate favorite breakfast food. There was one trip I went on where I ate French toast at a different breakfast place every single day. Unfortunately it is not the best nor the most balanced meal to be starting your day off with. Thankfully I have discovered a way to make French toast super delicious and nutritious with this awesome recipe! I was inspired to add cardamom into it from the new winter tea from Davids tea that is cardamom French toast flavored! This morning I paired my French toast with some home made almond butter, a persimmon and some Greek yogurt with raspberries, the perfect way to start my day!
Cardamom French Toast:
1 egg + 1 egg white
2 tbsp almond milk (or any non-dairy milk)
1 tsp maple syrup
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cardamom
2 slices Silver Hills Bakery Little Big Bread
Heat a medium skillet with coconut oil. In a shallow bowl whisk together the egg, egg white, almond milk, maple syrup and spices. Soak each piece of bread on both sides so it can fully absorb all the mixture. Cook each piece for about 3-4 min on each side or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Serve topped with maple syrup, almond butter, pumpkin seeds or any spread you desire!
– this recipe makes exactly one serving and you should use up all the egg mixture with both pieces of bread.
– this recipe will work with any whole wheat or sprouted bread! You don’t have to use the same one I did!
