Turmeric is a bright orange root that falls in the same family as ginger. Turmeric is seen being used in many curry dishes to add a bright yellow pop of color and flavor. Along with adding a taste element to your favorite curry it also has tremendous health benefits and its flavor profile can be quite versatile beyond savory dishes!
Due to turmerics high concentration of Curcumin (the active ingredient in turmeric) it has extreme anti-inflammatory properties and is high in antioxidants. Becasue of its anti-inflammatory properties it provides relief from cold and flu symptoms, arthritis and bloating. Its antioxidant characteristics make it effective in slowing the process of aging and skin conditions that come along with that. If you have a breakout starting get yourself some turmeric to calm your skin and bring it back to its natural glow! Along with being high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory turmeric has also been proven to lower the risk of brain disease, heart disease and provides anti-cancer benefits.
How to Enjoy Turmeric:
You may have seen through some of my posts that I have an extreme love for turmeric and its many benefits. My favorite way to enjoy it is first thing in the morning after my green tea in a nice warm cup of Golden Mylk (made with almond milk, cinnamon, ginger, turmeric, maca and honey), added into a power smoothie or stirred into a nice warm bowl of oats with some cocoa powder and honey!
