Strawberry Cocoa Dream Smoothie


Nothing says spring better than strawberries! I am so happy now because now that spring is here, berries come back in season. Now you get big, fresh and local berries instead of the sad little imported ones that taste like water and cost $7 for a tiny little container. This recipe does use frozen strawberries but is inspired by the bright and fresh berries we will start seeing this season!

Strawberry Cocoa Dream Smoothie:
1 1/2 cups frozen strawberries
1/4 cup pitted dates (soaked)
1/4 cup nuts (almonds, cashews, walnuts or all of them… make sure they are soaked!!)
1/2 cup Greek yogurt (any non-dairy subsitute works as well)
1 tsp lacuma powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp maca root powder
1 tbsp cocoa powder
maple syrup (optional)

For at least 2 hours or overnight make sure you soak the dates and nuts in a small bowl full of water so they can seamlessly blend into your smoothie.
Blend everything together until a creamy consistency is formed and enjoy!

– Cashews will make the creamiest smoothie and are the easiest nut to blend
– Almonds will not blend as easily but add a great flavor boost
-Walnuts will add a rich earthy flavor to the smoothie and blend pretty well if properly soaked
– the dates add sweetness to the smoothie but if it is not sweet enough for your taste buds just add in a bit of maple syrup or honey!
