Lately, I have become so lazy about blogging and creating new recipes! I am so sorry! But I am back today with a killer new smoothie, new smoothie booster brands and lots of excitement. First off, my new smoothie is a romaine and tahini smoothie that will leave you full, fresh and fabulous (even more fabulous than you are right now). The excitement and the new smoothie booster brand are kind of linked. A few weeks ago, I entered an Instagram contest to win all these cool superfood powders, protein powders and a bunch of other exciting things. When I first entered it, I did not think I was going to win because I always enter contests and never win! But, on Sunday evening I got the amazing news that I won and that my package was on the way. Yesterday I got the package and it was probably the best day of my month, so far. It was full of all these amazing products, an adorable card and for added bonus she took the time to write little sticky notes on all the products explaining why she likes them. One of the products that came out of the package was a superfood dietary supplement powder from The Natural Citizen. I really wanted to talk about this powder in today’s post because I really enjoyed adding it to my smoothie this morning. The Natural Citizen creates organic, non-gmo, vegan and whole food smoothie boosters. The one that came in my package was Organic Energy, which is made of all organic quinoa, maca, green tea and rhodiola rosea root. It does have a slightly bitter taste to it, so I suggest putting it in smoothies that have more prominent flavours to them or that are on the sweeter side. All their products are meant to boost your health and add a little more nutrition to your day! Unfortunately, they don’t sell their products in Canada but if you are making any trips to the U.S. anytime soon, you can pick it up at any health food store or you can head to their website and order any of their products with the click of your mouse! Now, onto the smoothie…
Romain Tahini Smoothie:
1 1/2 cups chopped romaine lettuce (about 1/3 of a head)
1 heaping handful spinach
1 scoop (2 tbsp) The Natural Citizen Organic Energy Powder **Optional**
1/2 scoop Vega One French Vanilla protein powder
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp tahini
1 cup almond milk
1 cup water (+ more if needed)
Throw all ingredients into your blender and blend until smooth and green. Pour into your favorite smoothie cup and enjoy!
– If you don’t have the energy powder feel free to omit it or replace with another brand of superfood smoothie boosters.
– I prefer using the Vega One protein powder because of all the added benefits but another vanilla flavoured plant based protein powder can be subbed in as well (another great brand is Sun Warrior Warrior Blend protein powder)
– Overnight I froze the lettuce, spinach and banana to give the smoothie a frosty texture
