Coconut Orange Bliss Balls (vegan, gluten free)

This post is a very exciting one! As I am trying to grow my blogging knowledge and fan base I have started meeting with some well known and inspiring Calgary bloggers who share the same goals as I do, which is sharing our passions with the rest of the world!
About a month ago I reached out to Zandra who is a vegan lifestyle blogger. Her blog focuses on all of a girls favorite things in life, shopping, makeup and food. Her post are great for anyone looking for some new ideas and inspo to spice up life and live a little prettier. Becasue of my passion for all things nutrition, we thought of the brilliant idea of putting our two passions together to create a killer post. For the first part of this post and other amazing posts be sure to give her blog a look!

As you can probably tell from my blog I love raw energy bites and bliss balls that satisfy your sweet tooth as well as deliver your body with a hit of nutrients. These bliss balls are PACKED with healthy fats to help manage blood sugar, brain functioning, metabolism and cravings. Becasue fats are our bodies long term energy source these little guys are not only great for after dinner treats but have the potential to deliver your body with sustained and long lasting energy to slay your next workout.
Cashews deliver your body with a dose of magnesium, zinc and vitamin E which are all great for supporting skin, hair, nails and for an added bonus magnesium is great for sleep (again making these the perfect after dinner treat). Coconut oil is full of heart healthy cholesterol which will aid in preventing heart disease and heart attacks. I could (and hopefully will) write a blog post about all the benefits of coconut oil so just believe me when I tell you that stuff is magic. Hemp hearts again are incredibly high in heart healthy fats and vitamins which help to heal and repair the body. One extra added benefit to hemp is its impressive protein content which we all know is great for muscle repair and building as well as keeping us full for longer so little unnecessary snack attacks for low nutrient foods won’t sneak up!
To summarize all that blabber, set aside 20 min of your day to make a batch of these guys and you will thank me later…

Coconut Orange Bliss Balls
1 1/4 cup raw cashews (no salt and not roasted!!!)
1 cup unsweetened shredded coconut+ a little extra for rolling
1/4 cup hemp hearts
6 pitted medjool dates
2 tbsp coconut oil (not melted)
2 tbsp maple syrup
1 tsp orange zest
1 tsp lacuma powder
sprinkle of pink Himalayan sea salt
1/4 cup melted 70% or higher vegan, filler free dark chocolate

In a food processor blend the cashews, coconut and coconut oil together until a chunky cashew butter like paste forms. To that, add the remaining ingredients except the chocolate and blend until a sticky mixture is achieved. When the mixture forms one large ball in your food processor and no date chunks remain you will know it is ready. Using a tablespoon, scoop a heaping tablespoon of the mixture into your hand and roll into balls. If so desired coat each ball in some extra shredded coconut and drizzle with melted chocolate. Place them in the fridge for 1 hour to firm up and then enjoy! For storage, keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks.
